This pencil art piece by Jonathan W. Brown was inspired by the famous wild ponies of Assateague Island, Maryland, as they frolic in the surf.
Assateague Island National Seashore is a unit of the National Park Service occupying about half of Assateague Island, located off Maryland's eastern shore on the Atlantic Ocean. The park covers an area of 41,320 acres (from Wikipedia)
Wild ponies can also be seen at neighboring Chincoteague Island. Just as famous is the annual pony swim from across the Assateague Channel to Chincoteague Island.
